Global change is severely distorting water, carbon, and nitrogen budgets worldwide, threatening the biological integrity of freshwater ecosystems. In the forthcoming years, streams and rivers pose a high risk to suffer abrupt and irreversible shifts in their function, yet the magnitude of those changes is still unknown.

My research aims to fill this knowledge gap by studying how the natural and anthropogenic transfer of matter from lands affect the role of freshwaters in global biogeochemical cycles.
